Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites are increasingly being utilized to address the durability, corrosion, and lifecycle challenges associated with water and wastewater infrastructure. This presentation provides an overview of FRP composite materials, vacuum infusion manufacturing processes, and the structural design principles used to produce large-scale infrastructure structures. The discussion highlights the advantages of webstiffened, cored FRP construction, including high strength-to-weight ratios, corrosion resistance, integral insulation, and reduced field fabrication requirements.
Real-world applications are presented through a series of project case studies featuring DuraFiber® buildings, FRP rectangular tanks, wet wells, and tank covers. These examples demonstrate how factory-manufactured FRP structures can improve project schedules, lower maintenance requirements, and provide long-term performance in challenging water/wastewater environments. The presentation also reviews submittal packages, installation practices, and engineering deliverables, illustrating the value of composites as a sustainable alternative to traditional construction materials in critical infrastructure projects.
